Paul Rose was educated at the University of Auckland New Zealand, graduating in Optometry in 1967 and again in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Mathematics. In 1998 he was elected as an inaugural fellow of the New Zealand Society of Contact Lens Practitioners (NZSCLP) and served on the council for a period of 10 years including a term as President. Paul was awarded an honorary Fellowship of the CCLSNZ in 2003 and honorary life membership in 2011. Paul was also named as the first-ever recipient of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) Industry Award in 2014 recognising the entrepreneurial work being carried out by individuals in contact lens science, research and technology. In 2017, he was appointed as a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in recognition of his contributions to the field of Ophthalmology and Optometry.
Paul is the designer of the ROSE K family of lenses for the irregular cornea. The ROSE K family of lenses are now fitted in over 90 countries and the ROSE K brand is currently one of the most prescribed brands for the irregular cornea in the world. Paul retired from active practice in 2011 after specializing in rigid contact lenses for the irregular cornea for over 40 years, however Paul continues to do research, advises on fits and develops new ROSE K products today.
Dr. Choo obtained her BSc from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, her OD from Pacific University in Portland, USA and her PhD from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. She has been involved with specialty lenses her entire career having worked in Corneal Implant, Orthokeratology and Myopia Control research at the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) in Sydney, Australia.
In 2011, she joined Menicon Co. Ltd and currently serves as Global Director for Menicon’s Specialty Lens Division. She has presented extensively overseas and is a recipient of several research awards including the prestigious American Academy of Optometry William C. Ezell Fellowship. Dr. Choo is also an Adjunct Professor of Optometry at Pacific University as well as a past Advisory Board Member for the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Flores currently also runs her own specialty lens clinic in Valparaíso, Chile specializing in complex contact lens fits for diseases of the ocular surface. She is a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society, member of IACLE, Board member for GLOW (Global Ophthalmic Women) and a Board member for the Latin American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (ALOCM). She is an accomplished researcher and educator having lectured extensively in Latin America and around the world.
Josie is a qualified Dispensing and Contact Lens Optician. She has been in Optics for over 30 years and has worked in both Independent and Multiple Practice. For the last 20 years she has worked for contact lens manufacturers and has developed and delivered CET/CPD, training, and other lectures and workshops on a wide range of subjects covering contact lens corrections both generic and product specific. She specialises in complex lens fitting and advising peers in this area.
Josie has conducted lectures/training to Optometrists, CLOs, DOs and practice team members at various industry meetings and events and facilitated CET accredited workshops for optometric groups at industry meetings and at manufacturer facilities and is a former council member of the BCLA. Working for Menicon Ltd Josie is involved in product training both theoretical and practical on all Menicon devices, she is involved in product development and works closely with education providers training the next generation of eye care practitioners, as well as assisting in regulatory and R&D projects.
Michaël Guez is an experienced optometrist and has specialized in advanced contact lens fittings his entire career. He joined Menicon in 1999 and currently serves as the Scientific and Training Director at Menicon in Paris, France. Michaël previously developed and managed the French Professional Services Team to provide extensive education, training and technical assistance for all types of contact lens fits to professionals across France and the EMEA. His knowledge and experience helped him lead the development of campusmenicon, a comprehensive Contact Lens Training Centre for French eye care professionals. Michaël continues to stay on the cutting edge of contact lenses and is a well-respected educator who has lectured at numerous international congresses and meetings.
Norma Cárdenas joined Menicon in 2020 and currently serves as a Professional Educator for Menicon in Latin America. She is based in Bogota, Colombia and trained as an optometrist specializing in the Anterior Segment and Contact Lenses at the Universidad Santo Tomás de Bucaramanga, Colombia. Norma also obtained her Masters in Advanced Contact Lens Adaptations from the University of Valencia, Spain.
Norma has more than 15 years of experience fitting the irregular cornea and is passionate about contact lens education. She is a fellow of IACLE and she is also a Professor in the area of specialised contact lenses and special exams at the Universidad Santo Tomás. Norma currently also has her own specialty lens practice in Bogota where she helps patients directly with advanced lens fits.
Saranya currently serves as the Managing Director for Acchutha Eye Care in Tamil Nadu, India. She is a senior optometrist and has held the role of Principal at the Acchuta Institute of Optometry since 2016. Saranya is also Head of the Menicon Centre of Excellence located at the institute which opened in 2022. Her dedication to education and the delivery of eye care to as many people as possible is reflected in her numerous teaching and clinical responsibilities. Saranya is a fellow and very active member of IACLE and has also been an avid ROSE K practitioner since the design was introduced in India over 10 years ago.
Jyoti is located in Mumbai, India and currently serves as the Head of Professional Services in India for Menicon Ltd UK. She is a senior optometrist with extensive experience in advanced contact lens fittings and specialized eye care. Jyoti was instrumental in the development of the Indian irregular cornea market by introducing ROSE K and providing extensive training across India since 2008.
She is a fellow of both the BCLA and IACLE and was past president of the Contact Lens Society of India. Jyoti has been an advisor to numerous academic institutions including Ansal University in Gurugram, Charusat University in Gujarat and the NSHM Academy School of Optometry in West Bengal.
An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Jyoti founded the Jyoticare Benevolent Foundation to look after the eye health of underprivileged children in India and to actively promote education programmes for skill development in various areas of eye care.
Monica Yuk Ying Lau has a Bachelor in Science ( Hons) in Ophthalmic Optics, awarded by The City University, Department of Ophthalmic Optics, UK in 1976. She passed her professional qualifying examination and was awarded the status of registered Optometrist with General Optical Council, UK, since 1977 until now.
She was admitted as a Fellow of The College of Optometrists in 1995. She has been a member of The Association of Malaysian Optometrists since 1987. She served in The Low Vision Services Sub-committee, under The Sarawak Society for the Blind from 1988 to 2004. She is working as an independent optometrist in her own practice in Kuching, Sarawak. She has special interest in practicing orthokeratology for myopia management and other specialist contact lens fitting.
Ms Oi Ching, Ho graduated from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) with a Bachelor's Degree in Optometry in 2003. Her special interest is in pediatric and developmental optometry. Currently, she is in private practice in Penang, Malaysia. Though contact lens fitting for irregular cornea patients can be challenging, she strongly believes that the improvement in their vision and quality of life is most rewarding and priceless. She is very grateful to Mr. Paul Rose and the Rose K team for their technical support in trouble-shooting cases deem challenging to her.
Fakhruddin is an Indian Optometrist who is currently working as a lecturer at SEGi University in Malaysia since December 2014. He primarily teaches the subject of contact lenses and is actively involved in research within the area of anterior eye and contact lenses. Prior to this role, he has been a Junior lecturer at Lotus College of Optometry, India (2011 to 2014) and visiting lecturer at Wavikar Eye Institute, India (2014). He also has experience of being a Clinical Optometrist at a private ophthalmology clinic which had focus on anterior eye procedures, cataract surgery and laser vision correction.
Fakhruddin completed his graduation and post-graduation in Optometry from the Lotus College of Optometry, India and went ahead to pursue his interest in academics and research. Fakhruddin has also cleared the fellowship examinations by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, India in the subject of Dispensing Optics, the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE), the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA). Fakhruddin is also an elected as a member of the Board of Directors at IACLE.
Annelize van Zyl is qualified with a B. Optom and later a M. Phil Optom degree on UV crosslinking for keratoconus at the University of Johannesburg. For the first 12 years of her career, she was working closely with Dr E.G. Sevenster (ophthalmologist) where she discovered her passion for speciality contact lenses, dry eye management and low vision. She has been on the committee of the Contact Lens Society of South Africa since 2014 and has organised three international Contact Connect conferences.
In 2021 she joined Saks, Taylor, and Brauer Optometrists, one of the oldest practices in South Africa where she spends most of her week. Since 2013 she is the owner and optometrist at the Low Vision Pretoria practice in the Pretoria Eye Institute where she spends the remainder of her time. Patient care is her main priority.
